Art, life & brands - we can all be artists creating the piece that will change someone's life

So I've been reading a book about art. And creativity. And the world of an artist.
And I started to think about what defines an artist, the pieces of art I've seen before and how they changed my life.
As a marketeer, I must say: a brand can also change someone's life. For me, sometimes, they even look – or behave – like works of art. A classic example? Apple.
I bet your eyes also sparkle when they announce a product or a new campaign. They always show the point where innovation meets art. And you can see – and feel – the chemistry there.
Inspiration on the road
But let's start from the beginning. Or at least a while ago, when I started to think about art, life & brands. I was in Auckland, New Zealand.
After two years living in Australia, it was my first stop while I was backpacking. An Airbnb hosted by Doris. A pink house in a beautiful neighborhood. I didn't know anything about the host, and during the 4 days I spent there, I learned that she worked with art.
The house was full of decorations, a strong personality. And she was an inspiring figure. One recommendation from her? “Visit the Art Gallery!” she said to me. And I did.
But what I always think about is how her home touched my heart even more than the art gallery.
Four days later, I said thank you and goodbye, and I kept going on my journey. Now, four months later, I'm reading the book about art I mentioned.
Where does art start?
The book is “The Creative Act: A Way of Being” by Rick Rubin, which I strongly recommend.
In the book, the author shares about art, its creation, the life of an artist, and more, in dynamic chapters.
Every time I open it to read, I know I will highlight at least one phrase that makes me smile.
I've never considered myself an artist. Instead, I used to think that art was far and above me.
But during my adventures, I started to see beauty in small things. Moments. Experiences. And when I was looking at a building's architecture, or how things were well-organized in a store, or a laugh between people in the street, I felt the same way as when I was looking at a piece of art that I really liked at a museum or an art gallery.
Art is everywhere
If you search Artist in the Cambridge dictionary you will find its definition as “someone who creates things with great skill and imagination."
Why can't we all be artists, then, creating something good for the world? Using our brands, skills, experiences, to make people feel something wonderful…
Next time when you're about to develop a marketing strategy or a campaign, I dare you to think like an artist. How can your brand be the work of art someone needs as an inspiration?
See you next time.
With love,
